Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law to governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Action Alliance, AA.
The party is dogged by protracted crisis in the state since the anointing of Mr Nwosu by Mr Okorocha as his successor.
Announcing his defection on Tuesday at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport in Owerri, Mr Nwosu expressed optimism that he would succeed his father-in-law.
In a disputed primaries, Hope Uzodinma emerged the party’s standard bearer.
