Apollos Samchi, the newly appointed Managing Director of the Jos Water Services Corporation, JWSC, says only 30 per cent of the population of Jos-Bukuru has access to potable pipe-borne water.
Samchi, who is also a water resource engineer, communicated this on Thursday in Jos, Plateau, when he and members of the corporation’s newly appointed executives met with the members of staff.
Samchi attributed the limited water access to various factors such as poor maintenance of facilities (Plants, Dams), dysfunctional pipe networks in the city center, new layouts springing up and the near absence of electricity supply.
According to him, the JWSC needs to pump at least 4,000,000 liters of water daily to meet the water demand of the city capital.
The managing director, however, said that he and the new executives had developed a two to six months action plan of rejigging and reorganising the corporation in addressing the challenges to ensure maximum service delivery and boosting revenue generation for the state.
He said that the corporation would work towards attaining the daily supply of 3,500,000 liters of water to ensure adequate water supply in Jos and environs.
Samchi further said that the corporation would also introduce various targets to ensure staff pro activeness and revenue generation.
He called on all members of staff to ensure that they discharged their duties pro-actively.
Yengurum Shakum, the Union chairman of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, AUPCTRE, assured Samchi of the staff’s unflinching support to ensure that the corporation attained its zenith.
