Onyeama describes Niger as home of Nigerian cricket

Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) President, Emeka Onyeama has described Niger State as one of the top followers of cricket in the country, saying the evolution of the game in Nigeria began in the state among the Indians residing in Minna.

Speaking when he paid a familiarisation visit to the Niger State Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Development and the Niger State Cricket Association as part of his campaign ahead the federation polls in Abuja, Onyeama said Niger State in the North Central was vital and key to the development of sports in the country. He added the state had produced a lot of players in all sporting events for the country.

Earlier, the Niger State Director of Sports, Alhaji Baba Sheshi applauded Engineer Onyeama for piloting the affairs of cricket in the last four years, pointing out that the game in Nigeria, which is played in 11 states, now has states’ associations in 30 states of the federation.

He said, “Cricket is a multi-billion dollar game which Nigeria is missing right now. If the country and Niger State can key into it, it will generate chains of economic growth and development.
