The Coordinator of the maiden Under-15 National Senate President Baseball and Softball Championships, Femi Abolarin, has assured stakeholders of hosting a successful championship, slated for January 31 to February 10 in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Not less than 500 athletes and officials are expected to take part in the 11 days contest holding at the Adewole Baseball and Softball Park.
The event is being organised by Double T Baseball and Softball Club, a non-governmental organisation, whose aim is to develop the youths through involvement in sports.
According to Abolarin, everything has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free championship.
“The championship is going to be a yearly event supported by the Kwara State government.
“This will afford our young players the opportunity to hone their skills and showcase their talents in the sport,” he said.
He added that the competition was christened after Senator Bukola Saraki for his contributions to the development of the state.
“The championship was named after Senator Bukola Saraki, a worthy son of Kwara State, who has contributed immensely to the growth of the state and the country at large.
“Ilorin is the home of baseball and softball in the country and I am proud to say that the first baseball and softball park in West Africa was built in Ilorin.
“Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has over the years contributed immensely to the development of the game since he came into office. We are grateful and hope for their continuous support,” he said.
