Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is not talking about an election due in 2019 but is focused on delivering on promises made on his current term, his vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, said on Thursday.
“The president is focused on this term. He wants to ensure that he delivers on the promises that were made. He is not talking about 2019,” Mr Osinbajo said in CNBC interview, as reported by Reuters.
His comment came 72 hours after the former president; Olusegun Obasanjo advised the president, in an open letter, not to contest the 2019 polls but should opt to revert to an elder statesman.
Ever since Obasano’s letter appeared, reactions have trailed the former president’s opinion, with the government’s spokesperson, Lai Mohammed saying on Wednesday that Obasanjo’s busy schedule had prevented him from noticing the positive changes brought by the present government.
