Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo on Friday, said discussion with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, over the ongoing strike action would continue with the minister of labour and productivity, Christ Ngige as the federal government’s head of delegation.
Osinbajo’s statement has dispelled the news going round that the vice president was not happy with Ngige’s snail-speech discussion with the union, and that he would take over the negotiation.
Spokesperson of the vice president, Laolu Akande said via his tweeter handle that the news of the Osinbajo’s criticisms of Ngige was not true.
“News reports that VP Osinbajo has taken over ASUU negotiations is untrue & inaccurate. Labour & Education ministers continue to lead the talks,” Mr Akande said in his tweet.
The union has been on strike for over three weeks, but the prompt negotiation with the federal government over the lingering issues has not yet yielded results.
And despite the minister of Education, Adamu Adamu’s quick admittance of failure on the government side in fulfilling its promises to ASUU, the headway towards ending the strike action seems difficult to come by.
