President Muhammadu Buhari has begun a short vacation from today, February 5 to February 10, a statement by the president’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, said.
This is against a previous statement issued on February 1, saying President Buhari would return to Nigeria at the weekend after a visit to France and London.
There was speculation that the president was billed to see his doctors while in the United Kingdom.
But in today’s statement, Adesina said “while President Buhari is on vacation, the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President.”
He added, “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.”
