The vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday visited Numan in Adamawa State over the recent clashes between Fulani and Bachama tribesmen.
The vice president identified the long-standing animosity between the Bachama and Fulani communities as the cause of the recent crisises in the area.
Mr Osinbajo made the assertion when he paid a courtesy call on the Hama Batchama, Stephen Irimiya, in his palace in Numan town.
He described the recent killings in Numan as needless, adding that the problem of the common man was how to sustain livelihood and not to kill.
According to him, the problem is being caused by humans and not spirits and therefore, requires humans to resolve it.
“There is no gain in flames; there is no achievement in killing; nobody can claim victory in this kind of circumstance.
“This is the best time for us to provide food for our people.
“This is the time to focus on development and we must prevent whoever that wants to bring distraction.
“We must be committed to bringing perpetrators of any killing to book.”
The vice president commended the traditional council for cooperating with the government to bring a lasting solution to the crisis.
He said that the purpose of the visit was to commiserate with the government and people of the state for the lives lost during the crisis.
Earlier, the paramount ruler had commended the Federal Government for its intervention to restore peace in the area.
He requested the reinstatement of the police area command which was removed since 2009, adding that such action would enable security personnel to respond swiftly during crisis.
NAN reports that Mr Osibanjo later held a closed-door meeting with the state governor, Jibrilla Bindow, security chiefs and other stakeholders.
