President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominee from Abia State, Uchechukwu Ogah, who is likely to be given petroleum ministry portfolio, has vowed to fix the country’s ailing refineries if given the opportunity to do so.
Mr Ogah, who made the avowal while being screened by the Senate on Wednesday, stressed that, “If refineries do not work, in the next 10 years, there would be no money to be spent on capital projects.”
However, the nominee had since been screen and taken his bow before the Senate.
Recall that the Senate had begun screening of some of the ministerial nominees sent to it by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
Presiding by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, the lawmakers are currently drilling one of the nominees from Abia State, Uchechukwu Ogah, who is likely to be given petroleum ministry portfolio.
When the Senate confirmed receiving the ministerial nominee list on Tuesday, it had to postpone its annual recess which was to start on Thursday for one week, in order to screen the nominees.
Announcing the postponement, the Chairman, Senate ad hoc committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, said the exercise would be thorough.
According to Mr Adeyeye, the Senate would suspend its rules to sit beyond 2pm and conduct plenary on Mondays and Fridays until all the nominees have been successfully grilled.
