Over 5m Nigerians applied for N-Power – Official

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has said that a total of 5,042,001 Nigerian youths applied for N-Power as at the end of the exercise, on August 9.

A statement signed by the ministry’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communication, Halima Oyelade, said women and persons with disability would be prioritized during the selection.

According to the statement, N-power is one of the platforms assisting in the realization of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vision to lift 100 million Nigerians out of Poverty in the next 10 years.

DAILY NIGERIAN recalls that the exercise commenced on June 26 was initially scheduled to end on July 26.

The ministry, however, extended the date by two weeks to avail those that were unable to do so to apply.

The Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, re-assured Nigerians that due diligence would be applied during the next stages of the selection to ensure that only duly qualified applicants are enrolled.

She assured that the Ministry would ensure that the applicants, as well as the general public, are kept fully informed on the progress of the scheme.

The Minister added that the N-Power program was aimed at providing Nigerian youths with opportunities to gain skills for employability and entrepreneurship.

This, Ms Farouq said, would go a long way in assisting the country towards the post COVID-19 economic recovery.
