Rangers International FC of Enugu Seka Pascal’s brace was all that was needed by the visiting team to dislodge Sunshine Stars at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
The week 15 encounter of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) between both teams ended 1-2 in favour of the visitors on Sunday in Akure.
The game had Rangers’ Pascal getting the first goal of the encounter to put the visitors ahead in the 24th minute.
Sunshine Stars Midfielder, Anthony Omaka, equalised in the 30th minute to make the game 1-1.
In the 37th minute, Sunshine Stars’ right back, Seun Olulayo, hit the top corner of the bar with a shot from a lob by Dayo Ojo.
However, against the run of play, Pascal doubled for the visitors to make it 1-2 into the half.
Sunshine Stars were handed a lifeline in the 84th minute with a penalty, but the Rangers’ goalkeeper saved Sasere Franklin’s effort from the spot, only for Dayo Ojo’s rebound to be cancelled by the centre referee and the penalty not retaken.
All efforts to equalise by the home team were futile as the visitors were resilient in their effort to cart away the maximum three points.
NAN reports that Rangers are currently on top of the league in Group A with 27 points from 12 matches and with three outstanding matches.
Sunshine Stars are sixth on the log with 19 points having played 15 matches.
