The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appointed a 13-man caretaker committee for Kano State.
The decision follows the August 29 judgement of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which upheld the party’s right to dissolve the executive committees at all levels and appoint a caretaker committee.
In a letter dated August 29, 2022 and signed the national organizing secretary of the party, Umar Bature, the committee was charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the party in Kano State as contained in Section 21(2)(a-b) of the party constitution.
“We wish to inform you that the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great
Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has, on behalf of National Executive
Committee (NEC), pursuant to the Constitution of our Party (2017 as amended),
approved the underlisted as KANO STATE CARETAKER COMMITTEE, which is
composed as follows,” the letter read.

When contacted for comment, the ousted chairman of the party, Shehu Sagagi, said he could not comment on the matter at the moment.
He however said he had instructed his legal team to study the situation.
