The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, has suspended his campaign rally in Rivers State.
The rally was scheduled for February 14.
But while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, the chairman of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council in River State, Lee Meaba, said the rally would no longer take place due to security reasons.
He said Mr Abubakar had informed the team that he does not want any bloodshed in the state, hence the decision to cancel the rally.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and Mr Atiku have been at loggerheads since the Rivers governor lost the party’s primary elections.
The rivalry became worse when the government lost the vice-presidential ticket.
Even last week, the director general of the presidential campaign council in the state, Abiye Sekibo, was attacked in Port Harcourt.
His attack came a few days after some supporters of the presidential candidate were arrested and charged to court for holding a Pro- Atiku meeting.
Mr Sekibo accused policemen attached to Rivers Government House of being behind the incident.
But the state government denied the allegations.
