Adedamola Fanokun, counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has told a Federal High Court in Abuja that his client never constituted any caretaker committee to replace Shehu Sagagi-led executives in Kano.
Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo had on March 29 issued an order, restraining the party from dissolving the exco and constituting a caretaker committee, pending the determination of the suit.
On the same day, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP allegedly avoided service and went ahead to dissolve the state, local and ward executive committees and constituted a 7-man caretaker committee in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, however rejected the caretaker committee forwarded by the party in compliance with the order of the Federal High Court, which restrained the party from tampering with the state executive.
But at the commencement of hearing of the matter on Thursday, counsel to PDP, Mr Falokun denied that the party had constituted any caretaker committee in Kano.
When the judge asked about the swearing-in of the new caretaker committee, the lawyer said nothing of that nature happened.
The judge then reminded the counsel about a burden of truth he bears as a lawyer and admonished him to tell the truth.
The lawyer, however, insisted that the party neither dissolve Sagagi-led exco nor constitute any caretaker committee.
The judge then told the lawyer to warn his clients against flouting his order.
“I’m a law-abiding judge who respects the law. Tell your clients, if they take any action after the court order, they should reverse it,” the judge said.
He there adjourned the case to April 28 for hearing.
