The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said it will hold the national convention in October following the end of a long leadership tussle that rocked the party.
The Supreme Court has on Wednesday declared Ahmed Makarfi as the substantive chairman of the party, which set aside similar claim by Ali Modu Sheriff.
Consequently, Niger State chairman of the party, Tanko Beji, said in Minna on Thursday while addressing a stakeholders’ meeting, that the party will now hold its national convention in October.
He said the presidential candidate of the party in the 2019 general election is to come from the northern part of the country, while the vice president is zoned to the south, the party has announced.
Mr Beji said in preparing for the convention, each state branch of the PDP has been directed to submit the names of 30 members that would serve on the convention planning committee.
He said Nigerians with ambitions to seek the mandate of the people should do so, saying the era of “no vacancy” had come to an end.
“Anyone with ambition to seek political office should go to the people, the leadership will not allow imposition of candidates,” he said.
