A senator representing Ebonyi South in the National Assembly, Sonni Ogbuoji, was on Wednesday denied his plan to dump hisparty, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Mr Ogbuoji had shown his intent while speaking on the floor of the senate and cited problems in his party, both in his state and at the national level, as the reason why he wanted to leave the party.
As his submission to the senate continues, his colleagues in PDP cut him short and refused to allow him pronounce the final point of the defection.
But he managed to drop the bombshell, saying “I have decided to leave my former party, both in the state and national level,” before he was interrupted.
The PDP lawmakers immediately left their seats to consult with him.
After about 15 minutes of the chamber being rowdy, calm was restored when Mr Ogbuoji announced that he would no longer defect to the APC.
“When I started my colleagues from my party said they needed me to consult with them. Because of the love they have shown me I have decided to step down my declaration,” the senator said.
On his part, Senate President Bukola Saraki said: “I will keep a whole day if he decides to come back.”
