The Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS, says 5,700 people will benefit from its cash transfer programme in seven states across the country.
The Disaster Management Officer, NRCS, Antenyi Oloche, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria in Makurdi on Tuesday.
According to him, 100 pregnant women will get N10,000 for ten months each, while 700 will be given N30,500 for three months each in Benue.
Mr Oloche said that out of the 5,700 beneficiaries in the seven states, 5000 were for multipurpose cash grant, while 700 were for nutrition.
He said that 800 people from Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi will benefit from the cash programme, while 900 people would benefit in Katsina state.
He said that the mission of the society was to alleviate the problems of vulnerable people, including those affected by disasters, epidemics as well as armed conflicts.
”The criteria used was to focus on people with special needs, poorest of the poor, those affected by COVID-19 pandemic and those bedridden,” he stated.
Others, he said, were people living with disabilities and adults that could not afford education.
”The society does post-monitoring to know its progress and also gets feedback from the people.
“We go back to listen to them and identify their challenges and their complaints,” he said.
