The governorship candidate of Labour Party in Kano State, Bashir I. Bashir, has said that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has good plans to secure the country and revamp education and agricultural sectors, especially in the Northern part of the country.
In an interview with DAILY NIGERIAN, Mr Bashir, an engineer, said he decided to dump the ruling APC and join the LP after a meeting with the national chairman of the party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Mr Bashir said the manifesto of the party and Mr Obi’s blueprint convinced him to join the party.
He noted that the issue of politics is all about internal democracy, which gives room for stronger and functional system that would provide a better country.
“The constitution has given us the right to choose any party we want. We use our experience, our knowledge and our capacity to decide to join the LP.
“LP called us. We met with them and before then, we made a thorough check on their manifesto and agenda for great Nigeria. We then became convinced that they share same agenda and political ideology with us, that is why we decided to join the party.
“I met with Obi and Datti. I heard about their policies and manifesto. I was impressed by their agenda to fix economy, security, power and provide employment to youths, education and improve agriculture in the North. We feel that these programmes are the same we want to implement in Kano if we get the opportunity,” he revealed.
Mr Bashir advised Nigerians, especially the people of Kano, to drop the issue of sentiments, political party, religion or region to vote for competent candidates.
DAILY NIGERIAN recalls that Mr Bashir contested for governorship on the platform of Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM.
He was previously a political associate of former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau.
