A former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has visited Kaduna State, barely six months after his dethronement and banishment from the state.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the ex-emir was received by a large crowd after arriving at Kaduna airport on a private jet at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

While the purpose of the ex-emir’s visit was unknown up till the time of filing this report, our correspondent gathered that Mr Sanusi headed to the state Government House where he had a meeting with Governor Mr El-Rufai, his friend and longtime ally.

Disclosing what transpired between him and the visiting ex-emir on his Twitter handle, Mr El-Rufai said he thanked Mr Sanusi for making Kaduna the first place he was visiting since his relocation to Lagos in March.

On his part, Mr Sanusi told the governor that he was grateful to have him as a friend who he could always count on.

“He thanked the governor for standing by him and assured that he will do his best as Vice Chairman of Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency and as Chancellor of the Kaduna State University, KASU,” Mr El-Rufai wrote.

Similarly, a close aide of the monarch, Dr Suleiman Shinkafi, had told The Nation that Mr Sanusi would be in the state for a week or so to receive visitors who had wanted to come to see him in Lagos.

Mr Shinkafi said: “Since his dethronement, many people have indicated their intentions to visit him in Lagos. But the monarch decided to relieve them from the stress of travelling as far as Lagos.

According to the aide, Mr Sanusi will visit Sokoto State to pay homage to the Sultan, Muhammad Sa’ad, before moving to Azare, Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where his late grandfather, Muhammad Sanusi l, was deposed to by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
