PICA to begin payment verification for ex-Nigeria Airways workers

The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit, PICA will commence verification exercise for payment of outstanding retirement benefits due to the ex-workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that president Muhammadu Buhari had recently approved the payment of N22.68 billion entitlements for ex-workers of the Nigeria’s liquidated national carrier.

However, the minister of finance, Zainab Ahmad, on Wednesday announced the commencement of the exercise in her twitter handle.

She stated that the exercise would take place at Lagos, Kano and Enugu centres on October 15-20, 15-20 and 15-18 respectively.

She also urged the general public to share the tweet for the benefit of the families of the beneficiaries.

“Six more days before the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA) commences the verification exercise of ex-workers of Nigeria Airways Ltd (in Liquidation) in Enugu, Lagos and Kano.

“Kindly share this message with beneficiaries or their families. #PMBPaysPensions,” she tweeted.

This newspaper reports that, regarding the settlement of outstanding retirement benefits due to the ex-workers of the Nigeria Airways, the initial submission for their retirement benefits was N78 billion.

This amount was verified by PICA & other relevant stakeholders in line with the condition of service of Nigeria Airways Limited in liquidation and other extant rules and regulations.

At the end of verification, N45 billion was agreed as total retirement benefits of affected staff.
