The Transition Committee Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Monday Kassah, has said that the death toll from the multiple attacks on communities in the local government area has risen to 125.

Speaking with The Nation, Mr Kassah said people are still in the bush searching for missing ones.

“Up to this moment, our people are still in the bush searching for missing ones. Today we have recovered more than 20 bodies from the bushes, and the search is not over yet.

“The situation on the ground now is not yet Uhuru.

“We are working tirelessly. Now as we are speak, the leadership of the Fulani are saying that they are going to talk to their people, and so we want to take them by their words, we don’t have problems.

“We never launched any attack on them. They are the ones attacking and attacking and we don’t really understand why they are attacking us.

“The death toll now? Well, the death toll from Bokkos local government now is 125,” Mr Kassah added.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Danjuma Dakil, said that the death toll from the attacks in the area had risen to 30, from 17 as earlier reported.

According to him, over 1,000 injured persons were taken to the Jos University Teaching Hospital,JUTH, for treatment.

He noted that the injured people had to be moved to several other hospitals in Jos City after the teaching hospital was overwhelmed.

“I’m pleased that the state governor has assured of footing the medical bills of the injured,” he said.

Mr Dakil also said that the state governor had contacted the National Emergency Management Agency,NEMA, for help, saying that NEMA had given assurance of prompt response to the emergencies.

“As I speak to you, NEMA is on its way to Bokkos, and after that they will come to Barkin Ladi,” he added.
