The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for 2019 elections in Plateau State, Jeremiah Useni, has filed an appeal to challenge the judgement of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the state.
Recall that the tribunal, which delivered its judgement on October 2, 2019, upheld the election of Governor Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
However, the governorship candidate filed 21 grounds of appeal to upturn the verdict of the tribunal.
Mr Useni and the PDP maintained that Governor Simon Lalong had supplied false information to INEC in his form CF100, hence the need for his disqualification.
According to the appellants, Mr Lalong was not qualified to have contested for election into the office of Governor of Plateau State.
Mike Ozekhome, Mr Useni’s counsel, stated that “the inescapable conclusion that ought to be reached by the Tribunal is that the 2nd Respondent is not qualified to contest election into the office of Governor”.
Instead, he said, the Learned Tribunal, “clearly somersaulted in arriving at its decision which was at odds with its findings and this occasioned a miscarriage of justice”.
