Not fewer than 51 persons have been confirmed killed on Sunday, following overnight attacks on two villages of Zike and Kimakpa in the Kwall district of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
An official of the Nigeria Red Cross Society who spoke on anonymity confirmed the attacks, said corpses of 22 injured persons have been recovered and taken to hospitals in Jos, the State capital.
“I can confirm to you that 51 persons have died, 22 others were injured and taken to hospital, five houses were burnt down and other valuables,” the Red Cross official said in anonymity.
Confirming the attacks, Commissioner of Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, said: “The attack is one too many and these series of attacks pose an existential threat to the lives and livelihoods of the peace-loving people of the state.
“It is sad that in less than two weeks after our people were killed in Bokkos local government, this sad incident is reoccurring in another community in Bassa local government,” she added.
Recall that three days ago, a 16-year Fulani herder was killed and beheaded while grazing his cattle, and his cows were rustled.
Although troops of Operation Safe Haven recovered the rustled cows, Ya’u Idris, the Bassa Local Government chapter chairman of Miyyeti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, condemned the incident.
He said: “In recent attack on Friday 11 April, 2025, some suspected Irigwe people have again attacked one of our boys, a 16-year-old Abdullahi Muhammad, who had gone missing on Thursday, until this Friday that his dead body was discovered.
“The attackers killed him, they beheaded him and also cut off his left hands, and buried him in a shallow grave.
‘We have exhumed the body and taken it back home for funeral prayer. More than 80% of the cattle were rescued.
“We thank the security forces, especially the personnel of OPSH, for their efforts towards the recovery of the body and the cattle,” he said.
