Plateau Peacocks female handball club of Jos on Saturday in Abuja defeated Seasiders Babes of Lagos 28-24 to win their fifth game at the ongoing 2019 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Plateau Peacocks led 16-12 by the break before going on to extend their lead in the second half.
NAN reports that the Peacocks drew 18-18 in their first game, against Edo Dynamos of Benin, and won their second game against Defenders Babes 27-20.
They also thrashed Desert Queens of Katsina 50-20 in their third game, while they beat Owena Queens of Akure 34-16 in their fourth game.
Olubukola Duru, the Seasiders coach, said while her team tried their best but it was unfortunate that they did not win their game.
“It was a good game. My players did well but our opponents got the victory. My players now need to be more focused l, so that they can win their next match.
“We need to work on our mistakes before our next game, which is against Desert Queens of Katsina on Tuesday,” she said.
On his part, Ferdinand Emanaa, the coach of Plateau Peacocks, said hard work, prayers and dedication to God have been the secret behind their success so far.
“We are looking forward to winning all our games like we did last year.
“But our players should know that we have a target and they shouldn’t lose focus.
“We want to continue with the spirit of winning our games, as we have played five games so far, winning four and drawing one, which was our first game,” he said.
In another female competition match, the Edo Dynamos beat Defenders Babes 18-14, while Owena Queens of Akure lost to Safety Babes 14-36.
NAN reports that 12 male and 10 female teams are participating in this first phase of the competition’s second edition.
The competition is being organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN).
