The Nigeria Police on Saturday said the arrested notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans, is still “intact in police custody”.
The Sun newspaper on Saturday ran a banner headline ‘EVANS VANISHES’, saying the high-profile suspect was moved out of Lagos by ‘armed men’.
The police posted on their Facebook page that “members of the public are implored to disregard every misleading media report published in both print and social media that he has been released and all criminal charges dropped.”
Corroborating, the hero cop who arrested the kingpin, Abba Kyari, said the notorious kidnapper is still detained by the police.
“Friends, I received over a thousand calls this Morning. Please disregard the fake news from a major newspaper today that the most notorious kidnapper in the history of Nigeria Evans in our custody has vanished.
“It’s a big lie. In accordance with the 90 days remand order from Federal High Court, investigation covering 3 countries is in progress.
“It’s a false headline, we can never joke with the security of Nigerians,” Mr Kyari, an assistant commissioner of police, posted on his Facebook page.
