The Niger State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the arrest of 19 suspects in connection with thuggery and youth restiveness in the state.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered since the Eid period, there has been a resurgence of youth restiveness in many parts of the state capital, Minna.
The incidents have led to the killings and injury to many residents.
However, a statement issued by the command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects were arrested after a sting operation by the operatives on Friday.
“Following the recent resurgence of thuggery and youth restiveness in Minna metropolis immediately after the Sallah celebration, the Police Command re-strategised and carried out sting operations in some locations in the metropolis.
“On 4th April, 2025, at about 2:am, sting operations led by Area Commander Minna within Angwan-Daji and its environs, 19 suspects were arrested,” he said.
According to him, the suspects arrested are, “Habibu Ibrahim, 22, Aminu Umar, 17, Dahiru Abdullahi, 17; Abba Alhassan a.k.a Mulala, 22, Shamsudeen Ibrahim, 24, Abubakar Bawa, 20 yrs; Abdul Talib Siri-siri, 20 yrs; Umar Adam, 17 yrs; Mustapha Haruna, 25 ,Sadiq Salamu, 21, Abdullahi Sabo, 21 yrs; Sadiq Yakubu, 17, Bashir Nuhu, 20 yrs; Shaibu Bawa, 18 yrs; Mohammed Mustapha, 20; Umar Haruna, 17 and; Uzaifa Bello, 18.”
Mr Abiodun explained that they were arrested alongside two other armed robbery suspects.
He identified the suspects as Ismaila Abubakar and Abdulrahman Adamu.
Similarly, Mr Abiodun said, “on 3 April, 2025 at about 2.30am, twenty-three suspects were arrested at a hotel within Tunga with shisha smoking apparatus and other illicit drugs and cannabis. while thirteen others were arrested within the community with dangerous weapons.”
The police spokesman said all suspects are under investigation in SCID Minna.
“However, monitoring and raid of criminal hideouts continue, while normalcy has been restored in the metropolis”, the statement added.
