Police arrest 8 suspected cultists in Anambra

The Special Anti-Cultism Squad, SPACS, of the Anmbra Police Command says it has arrested eight suspected cultists at Umuezeagu village, Anaku community in Ayamelu Local Government Area of the state.

The SPACS commander, Christopher Bassey told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Onitsha that the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off.

Mr Bassey, a chief superintendent of police, said the suspects included a wanted cultism kingpin, Ogunsan Igwebuike and seven others namely: Eubuka Chidukwe,  Kosolu Ifene and Onwune Onuorah.

Others are Ewele Okeke, Oloh Chike, Ogugua Maduka and Odemenam Chinedu.

“This group of suspected  cultists have been terrorising the community and its environs on daily basis, forcing youths in the area to join their group.

“Following a tip-off my squad stormed a hideout on May 6 at about 1800hrs during their meeting and arrested them,” he said.

Bassey advised parents to always monitor the type of company their children keep adding that they would not be spared when caught.

The commander urged members of the public to always furnish the police with vital information that will lead to arrest of cultists and other criminal elements in the society.

According to him, the suspects would soon be charged to court to serve as a deterrent to others.

He said items recovered from the suspects included one cut-to-size locally made gun, one axe, one expended cartridge, one barret cap, charms, one knife and two plastic bottles containing hard drugs.
