The Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, Ali Janga, has announced the arrest of a police inspector allegedly involved in the killing of a commercial bus driver along Kaduna-Abuja expressway on Friday morning.

The driver’s killing led to blockage of the road by his colleagues and caused over 12 hours of traffic gridlock along both lanes of the highway.

The bus driver was reportedly on his way to Abuja from Katsina when the policeman allegedly shot him dead while the his assistant was haggling with another policeman who demanded for a N1,000 bribe.

The suspect was said to have run into the bush after the shooting while the other policeman quickly disappeared from the scene using a police vehicle.

The command spokesman, Yakubu Sabo, said in a press statement issued on Friday in Kaduna that the commissioner also ordered immediate investigation into the death.

Mr Janga commiserated with family of the deceased and assured them and members of public that the command will ensure that justice is done on the matter.

He appealed for calm and pleaded with the drivers unions not to take law into their hands by causing further road blockade as such measure will only add difficulty to the public.
