The police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, attached to the Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a former chairman of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Ltd., PAN, Sani Dauda popularly known as ASD for marrying off his daughter, Nasiba.
The police also arrested the judge of Magajin Gari Kaduna State Shari’a Court, Murtala Nasir, who officiated the marriage between Nasiba and her new husband, Abdullahi Kullama, last Saturday.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Nasiba is a 25-year-old divorcee of one Abubakar Musa-Abubakar, who is believed to a friend to the Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Adamu.
It was gathered that the arrest followed controversy over Nasiba’s first marriage with Mr Musa-Abubakar which she ended through Khul’I, an Islamic divorce procedure where a woman could opt out of marriage by returning the dowry and other belongings to the husband.
According to a report on Tuesday, the Sharia Court judge stated that the marriage was conducted in line with Islamic laws and the Nigerian Constitution.
The judge stated that Nasiba’s marriage with Mr Musa-Abubakar ended since January 5, 2018, adding that there was no any existing order restraining her or her family from conducting a new marriage.
However, it was gathered that the ex-husband, who objected to Nasiba’s move to end their marriage, threatened to use his connections with the current Inspector-General of police to harass and frustrate her family.
A source at Mr Dauda’s house told this reporter that on Monday, November 11, at about 4pm, some uniformed police invaded their residence and arrested Mr Dauda, Nasiba’s brother and the judge.
The source told this newspaper that the police were at Mr Dauda’s residence on an order to arrest Nasiba and her new husband, adding that when they could not see the husband and Nasiba, they then decided to arrest the father.
However, when contacted, the spokesperson of the police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Frank Mba, told DAILY NIGERIAN that as far as he knew, nobody was in police detention in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, DAILY NIGERIAN contacted Nasiba on the estranged marriage and she said that in the five months she was married to the 43-year-old Mr Musa-Abubakar, she never knew peace.
“In the five months we stayed as husband and wife, he made me pass through various degrees of emotional turmoil.
“He would insult me and insult my parents. I think he just has this hatred for my father.
“I opted for a divorce after having discovered that things were not going to work out for the two of us.
“I then approached the Shari’a Court for the divorce and tendered his N50,000 dowry to the court.
“The court invited him but he refused to show up. However, his lawyer was present when I tendered the dowry.
“Despite all these, up to the time I am speaking with you, he has refused to allow me to pack my properties worth over N30million at his house,” Nasiba disclosed.
On her ex-husband’s connection with the IGP Mohammed Adamu, Nasiba said: “He is actually very close to the IGP.
“In fact, he was even one of the people that facilitated his appointment as the IGP. So, they are very, very close.”
DAILY NIGERIAN also contacted Mr Musa-Abubakar, Nasiba’s ex-husband, but said he would not want to talk on the issue since the matter was still in court.
He, however, said that he did not officially divorce Nasiba.
He also accused Nasiba of assault, blackmail and threat to his life.
