The Kano State Police Command says its operatives have arrested a 24-year-old kidnap suspect, Habibu Sale, who abducted and killed eight-year-old girl, Asiya Tasiu in Chikawa village, Gabasawa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the Command, Abdullahi Haruna, who made the disclosure on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen in Kano said the suspect killed his victim after collecting a ransom of N500, 000.
Speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, the spokesman said the incident happened on June 5, but police effected his arrest on November 7.
Police investigations, according to Mr Haruna, revealed that, “Mr Sale killed the girl after collecting the ransom and buried her in a shallow grave at the outskirts of Chikawa village to cover his crime because the victim lived in the same vicinity with him and could recognize and possibly expose him.”
Though Mr Sale confessed to having committed the crime alone, police indicated that there are other accomplices at large because he confessed to having spent the N500, 000 ransom on harlots, drugs and gambling.
“After collecting the ransom, I had travelled to Kaduna state where I stayed and enjoyed the money with my friends,” the suspect said.
He added that the girl died as a result of an accident on a motorcycle when he was driving her away to his hideout.
