Police arrest Shiites planning to attack Abuja residents

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has apprehended members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, who were planning to attack citizens and destroy public property.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Mariam Yusuf, announced the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.

Ms Yusuf noted that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.

The statement said: “The members of the disbanded sect were arrested in possession of large stones, which they intended to use to cause havoc. Consequently, the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.

“While appealing to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, the Command wishes to reassure residents of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property within the FCT.
