The Katsina State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the rescue of 14 passengers who were kidnapped from the Katsina State Transport Authority.

A statement by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, on Thursday, said the victims were released through a joint rescue operation involving its officers, the military, and members of the Community Watch Corps, CWC.

“Today, Thursday, March 21, 2024, at about 1330 hrs, some suspected armed bandits armed with dangerous weapons such as AK-47 rifles attacked a KTSTA bus driven by one Dabo Filalawa, m., of Filin Polo quarters, Katsina State, at Gidan Kifi village via Kankara to Marabar Kankara road, en route Funtua from Katsina, and kidnapped eighteen,18, passengers

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives attached to Kankara Divisional Police Headquarters, military, and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully rescued fourteen (14) kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

Mr Aliyu added that the combined security team was ntensifying their efforts to safely retrieve the remaining four individuals who are still in captivity.
