Police gun down 2 robbers on Kano-Kaduna expressway

Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead by police in Kano during an encounter along Kano-Kaduna Expressway.

A statement by the spokesman of Kano Police Command, Magaji Majia said the incident occurred on Wednesday when the police ran into a road block mounted by the suspected armed robbers, who reportedly opened fire on the police team.

“At about 2015hrs along Kano – Kaduna Express Way, operatives attached to IGP Special Tactical Squad Monitoring Unit Kano Sector and that of Special Anti Robbery Squad Kano Command while on Patrol between Zaria and Kwanar Dangora ran into armed Robbery syndicate who blocked the public Highway with their Golf Wagon Motor Vehicle Black in colour with Bayelsa State Reg. No. YEN 242 XY,” he said.

Mr. Majia, a DSP, added that the police subsequently disembarked from their vehicles and engaged the suspects in a gun duel during which they suffered “mortal injuries”, while others escaped through the bushes with gunshot wounds.

“The injured suspects were rushed to Hospital and on arrival they were confirmed dead by the doctor on call at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano. Our operatives are still in the bush searching for the fleeing suspects,” he said.

The police spokesman revealed that “1 AK 47 Rifle with 22 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 2 AK 47 Magazines, cutlasses and assorted charms” were recovered during an on the spot search conducted by the police at the scene.

“Therefore, the command is calling on the general public especially the residents of Kwanar Dangora and neighbouring villages, hospitals and patent medicine stores to report to the nearest Police Station any person seen with bullet injury for necessary action,” he added.
