The Delta State Police Command on Saturday said its operatives have shot dead five suspected killers of an Area Commander of Ughelli, Usman Ndandabo, in a gun duel.
Mr. Ndandabo, an assistant commissioner of police, was shot at about 8:00pm on Sunday night by unidentified gunmen while returning from outing in his Nissan SUV.
Confirming the killing of the suspects in a telephone interview, the commissioner of police, Zanna Ibrahim, said two suspects, Lucky Onumeri and Charles Ighomuaye, were earlier arrested by the operatives and confessed to have participated in the killing of the ACP.
Mr. Ibrahim narrated that the two suspects led the operatives of the command to their hideouts where other gang members were hiding.
He added that on reaching the location, the ambushing hoodlums opened fire on the operatives.
The police boss said that in the ensuing gun battle, the gallant operatives shot the five suspects.
The CP further revealed that one suspect escaped with gunshot injuries and one vehicle was recovered at the location.
He urged the general public to be on the lookout for any suspect with gunshot injuries and report to the nearest police station.
He further revealed that the suspects also confessed to killing of a deputy superintendent of police, German Emmanuel, who had been declared missing since 2016.
Since the killing of the police officer, Mr Ibrahim reportedly relocated to Ughelli trying to fish out the culprits.
