The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday said it has shot dead a suspected armed robber and arrested one in a foiled robbery attack on a residence of a businessman, Umar Ibrahim, in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects before journalists at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano, the spokesman of the command, Magaji Majiya, said one Ibrahim Muhammad of Rimin Kebe quarters was arrested.

He said the suspect criminally conspired with three others and attacked the residence of Mr. Ibrahim on Sunday, January 29.

He said they robbed the businessman of the sum of N750,000 and some other valuable items at gun point.

He added that the robbers’ mission was unaccomplished after the police were quickly alerted by good Samaritan and responded promptly.

The command’s image maker added that the police succeeded in shooting one of the robbers, identified as Abubakar to death in during a gun duel.

“They engaged our men in gun battle and we gunned down one Abubakar, surname unknown, of Kurna area. We also arrested Muhammad with a locally made pistol.

“Also abandoned by the fleeing suspects include; N510,275, 1 satellite decoder, 1 wrist watch and some criminal charms.

“Further investigation at the residence of the gang leader who invited them for the operation, Idris Garba, a.k.a Kemi of Sabon Garin Bichi led to the recovery of five locally made pistols and ten live cartridges. He and one Gone also of Bichi town have fled during the encounter with the police,” Mr Majiya added.

The arrested suspect confessed that they were the syndicate that have been terrorising Kano-Bichi-Tsanyawa-Katsina and Kano-Rimin Gado-Gwarzo roads.

Mr Majia, a deputy superintendent of police, then handed over the recovered money to the owner, Mr. Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, the command also paraded one Hashimu Hussaini of Falali village in Sumaila Local Government area over theft of motorcycles.

Hussaini confessed to stealing about a hundred motorcycles at various places in the Kano metropolis.

He mentioned three others as his accomplices, while six motorcycles were recovered by the command.

Mr Majiya also vowed to arrest the three suspected accomplices, calling on the general public to be vigilant in protecting their vehicles.
