Polio: Kano LG takes immunization to churches


Fagge Local Government area of Kano State has taken Polio immunization to churches in the area, the Local Immunization Officer, LIO, Ahmad Ayuba revealed.

DAILY NIGERIAN observes that majority of churches in the state were situated at Sabon-Gari area in the local council, which was predominantly occupied by Christians for over a century.

Speaking to newsmen on the outcome of the April round of Immunization Plus Days, IPDs, on Saturday, Mr Ayuba disclosed that the idea of extending the exercise to churches was one of the effective strategies employed in order to be successful.

He added that they had established a good rapport with the church officials, and by extension, the state branch of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.

“We hold a meeting with the CAN officials during every round of the immunizations. We have a good understanding with them. They assigned officials to assist us during the exercise.

“Let me tell you that in some churches, it is the church members that engage in the exercise. The strategy has really contributed to the success of the exercise in this local government,” he said.

Giving the update of the just concluded IPDs in the council, Mr Ayuba disclosed that 86165 children were targeted for the round but only 86446 were immunized.

According to him, such number covers 100%.

He further disclosed that the Oral Polio Vaccine, OPV, used in the local government council during the exercise was 94520.
