Operatives of the Nigerian Custom Service Ogun State Command have intercepted 4,500 cartons of frozen products valued at N21.6m in Ogun State along Idiroko border post.
The seizures are considered harmful to human consumption.
Sani Magudu, the Ogun Area Controller of Customs, revealed this on Monday at the command headquarters, saying the frozen products were loaded in 10 vehicles.
He further said that they were being smuggled into Nigeria from the neighboring Benin Republic with some used vehicles before they were intercepted.
The Customs Area Controller noted that the importation of such products into the country remained banned in accordance with the directive of the Federal Government.
He explained that the directive was aimed at protecting the health of the populace and supporting the production of local poultry products for the nation’s economic growth and development.
