O’tega Ogra, the senior special assistant to President Bola Tinubu on digital and new media, has debunked social media reports on sacking of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmoud Yakubu.

The reports, which gained traction on social media on Monday, alleged that Mr Yakubu has been removed from office and replaced with Professor Bashiru Olamilekan.

The report claimed that the purported sack of Mr Yakubu was part of “sweeping change” in INEC leadership.

But the presidential aide, in a statement on his X handle, urged Nigerians to disregard the report.

“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Mr Ogra wrote.
