Professor, 2 others killed as explosions rock University of Maiduguri

Three people, including Professor Aliyu Mani of the Depertment of Veterinary Medicine, have been killed in multiple explosions in University of Maiduguri in the early hours of Monday.

Witnesses and rescue workers said 13 others were critically wounded.

A witness who craved for anonymity told Daily Nigerian that three seperate explosions occurred in the university, with one at Gate 1 entrance and another at a mosque.

The witness added that the other explosion went off at the entrance of Gate 5.

Officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and that of Borno State, BOSEMA, confirmed the evacuation of bodies of the professor, a child and two bombers.

Spokesman of Borno State Police Command, Victor Isuku, confirmrd the incidentn a terse statement.

“Yes, I can confirm there was an explosion within the premises of University of Maiduguri during the early morning prayers by Muslim faithful, detail is still being awaited.

“However the commissioner of police CP Damian Chukwu has mobilized to the scene for on the spot assessment of situation there”, the statement added.
