European Union leaders on Friday pledged continued supplies of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine ahead of the second winter of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In a joint declaration, the EU also promised Ukraine the delivery of additional power generators and mobile heating stations.
The EU would continue to provide strong support to Ukraine and its people for as long as it takes, the declaration read.
EU top diplomat Josep Borrell was asked by the leaders to hold talks with Ukraine on possible long-term security commitments.
Borrell had proposed to mobilise a total of 20 billion euros (21.1 billion U.S. dollars) for military aid from 2024 to the end of 2027, in addition to 50 billion euros in budget support.
EU leaders also backed work on a legislative proposal on how to use revenues from the management of Russian assets frozen in the bloc for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
