One of the six victims is said to be a student of the nearby Kogi State Polytechnic.

The death of the student led to the trooping out of students to stage a protest.

Witnesses said traffic light and billboards erected at the road intersection were vandalized.

It was also learnt that police deployed to the scene of the incident were forced to retreat as teargas was exhausted, and the protest turned violent.

The cement-carrying truck reportedly ran into a tricycle (Keke NAPEP), killing the student and others, including the three school pupils.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the truck which was coming from Obajana and heading northwards, lost control around the polytechnic gate and rammed into the victims.

A Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, official confirmed the development, saying situation at the scene of the accident was still tense.
