Protest records low turn-out in Zamfara, as Yari sues for calm

The planned nationwide protest, on Thursday, recorded low turn-out in Gusau and other parts of Zamfara, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The protest, commenced early in the morning in Gusau, was dominated by youths chanting different songs, as they marched on the streets.

The protesters gathered in groups at Tudun Wada area, moving toward Investment House and Bello Bara’u roundabout.

NAN reports that business and commercial activities were going smoothly across the state capital, while the environment was peaceful.

NAN also reports that commercial banks, filling stations and public offices were in operation in Gusau.

However, a NAN correspondent, who moved round the state capital, observed the presence of armed security operatives patrolling the streets to prevent breakdown of law and order.

A former governor of the state, Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari had earlier cautioned the people of the state against the protest.

Yari, representing Zamfara West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, while addressing newsmen in Talata Mafara town, Mafara Local Government Area of the state, said that the nationwide protest might not yield any result.

He called on the people of the state to remain calm and avoid engaging any protest capable of turning into violence.

The senator said that President Bola Tinubu was working hard to address the current economic challenges in the country.
