Rain disrupts proceedings at CBN Senior Tennis Open Championship

Early morning rains on Wednesday in Abuja disrupted proceedings at the ongoing CBN Senior Tennis Open Championship.

Henri Ubachi, the championship’s Chief Referee, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that matches earlier scheduled to start at 9 a.m. were delayed by the rains.

He said 30 matches was supposed to be played, going by the day’s Order of Play for Day 3.

“We cannot start any game now because of the rains. We will start by 12 noon and all matches will be played no matter the delay.

“Players and officials are on ground to play and to officiate in their various games.”

Speaking further, Ubachi noted that the championship started well and all the games have been well organised.

“The Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) and CBN have been working hard for us to be able to at the end of the championship that we have had a good event,’’ he said.

NAN reports that a total of 320 players are participating in the 2019 CBN Senior Tennis Open Championship.

A total of N8.2 million is up for grabs as prize money in this 41st edition of the CBN Senior Open Tennis Championship.

Winners in the men’s and women’s singles categories will smile home with N700,000 each, while N105,000 has been earmarked for winners of the men’s and women’s doubles per player.

The CBN Open will end on Saturday.
