Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has enjoined the Muslim Ummah to use the opportunity provided by the Holy month of Ramadan to continue to pray for the leadership of the country, its peaceful coexistence and speedy economic revival.
The Speaker made the call on Friday in a goodwill message to the Nigerian Muslim community on the commencement of Ramadan fasting, through his media aide, Turaki Hassan.
He admonished the Muslim faithful to always replicate in their daily lives, the spirit of sacrifice, forgiveness, self-denial and piety associated with the Holy month of Ramadan.
“As the fourth pillar of Islam, Ramadan fast is a significant act of worship which among others, teaches compassion, love, sacrifice, good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence.
“While urging you to use this golden opportunity to pray for the good heath and full recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari and for continued peaceful coexistence of the country and its economic revival, I also enjoin you to always reflect on the virtues of forgiveness, abstinence and genuine love towards one another and make them integral part of your daily lives,” Mr Dogara said.
The Speaker, who commended the resilience and sacrifice of all Nigerians in the face of current economic challenges, expressed optimism that with continued prayers and support, the President Buhari administration will lead the country out of the current downturn to prosperity and pledged the commitment of the parliament towards actualising the administration’s laudable policies.
