Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the recurring incidents of miscalculated airstrikes by Nigerian security forces.

On Sunday, many innocent residents of the Tudun Biri community in Kaduna State were killed when a Nigerian Army drone struck a gathering of Muslims commemorating Maulud.

Reacting to the incident, in a statement on his X handle, Mr Abubakar expressed sadness over the deaths of the victims.

According to him, the country needs to develop counterinsurgency measures that protect civilians from harm.

“I am grieved by the news of the drone airstrike that killed dozens of people and left scores of others with various degrees of injury in the Tudun Biri community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Mr Atiku urged the federal government to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident in order to avert future occurrences.

“I call on the authorities to launch a thorough investigation into this tragedy to avert future occurrences.

“Meanwhile, no resource should be spared in medical attention to the injured and assistance to the families of the dead.
