The chairman, House Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Sha’aban Sharada, has declared intention to contest for governorship in Kano state in 2023.
Mr Sharada, representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, made the declaration on Thursday at an empowerment programme, tagged “Grand Empowerment Program 2022″ where over 20,000 households benefited from the scheme, held in Kano.
Mr Sharada, who belongs to the G7 factional All Progressives Congress, APC in the state, said he had already designed a roadmap to change the lives of Kano people.
Our administration, God willing when Ganduje hands over to me in 2023, will be people oriented and take Kano to the glorious position of a viable economic prosperity status,” Mr Sha’aban said.
“My focus will be to carry everybody that can contribute meaningfully to the development of the state along regardless of party affiliations.”
Mr Sharada however explained that the empowerment, which according to him, is a regular activity even before he became a lawmaker, consists of 70 cars, 500 tricycles, 1,000 motorcycles, 500 bicycles and 500 sewing machines.
Others include 44 modern ‘gurasa’ oven with gas cooker (for ten women each in the 44 LGAs), skills acquisition starter pack for 300 beneficiaries worth N39m.
“More than 50 applicants were presented with employment offer letters as you can see by Senator representing Kano Central, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau and factional Chairman of APC, Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Danzago,” he added.
“My humble background is the motivating factor for assisting others like this and considering that Ramadan fasting period is just some days away. That is why we are also distributing thousands of food items that include rice, maize, millets, flour and sugar among others to ameliorate the suffering of the people especially during the holy month.”
Speaking at the event, leader of the G7, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who expressed delight with the large quantity and monetary value of the empowerment items, said the initiative is in line with the philosophy of the group, which is development of human resources and poverty reduction.
“I am happy that this empowerment cut across all strata of the society that include women and children, youth and men,” Mr Shekarau said.
Also in a remark, Kano APC factional Chairman, Ahmadu Danzago, said this is not the first time he would be witnessing Sha’aban Sharada Empowerment Program, which is much often noting that this particular scheme is massive as it cut across the 44 LGAs.
Also speaking, chairman, Kano Branch, Buhari Support Organisation and member of the G7, Shehu Dalhatu, appealed to the beneficiaries of the empowerment program to judiciously make use of the items to reduce poverty.
