No fewer than 74 people have been reportedly injured, following an attack on the campaign motorcade of the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Mr Abubakar is in Maiduguri in continuation of his campaign ahead of the 2023 election.
A viral video trending on social media shows many vandalized vehicles heading to the Ramat Square, the venue of the rally.
Reacting to the Maiduguri attack, the spokesperson of the PDP campaign council, Dino Melaye, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of sponsoring thugs to attack them.
He claimed that 74 people were injured and receiving treatment in a hospital.
“They wanted to prevent us from doing holding the campaign, as we speak, 74 people were injured and hospitalised.
“Several vehicles were vandalized by APC thugs,” Mr Melaye said.
Attempts to get reaction of the spokesperson of the Borno State governor wasn’t successful as his known phone line wasn’t reachable.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that in October, a similar attack was carried out on the supporters of Mr Abubakar in Kaduna State.
