The House of Representatives has called for halt in all investigations against the President of African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina.
The House also endorsed Adesina for a second tenure, asking the Federal government to lobby other African countries for Adesina’s re-election.
This resolution followed a motion on matters of urgent public importance by the Minority Leader of the House, Ndudi Elumelu during plenary on Tuesday.
Moving the motion, Mr Elumelu accused western countries of opposing Adesina’s re-election due to his Afrocentric posture.
He noted that the AfDB president in the last 5 years has increased the capital base of the Bank from $93 billion to $218 billion.
“Adesina has succeeded in investing in Africa and brought to bear the independence of the Bank as intended. This explains why the western countries are attempting to deny Nigeria the opportunity of leading the Bank for another 5 years,” he said.
He added that, “The House and Nigeria need to send a strong message”.
Speaking in support of the motion, Ossai Nicholas Ossai said that the House should get the copies of the Ethic committee of the AfDB to defend the resolutions of the House.
“There is no African that will not support Adesina. When matters of international concerns are discussed, I prefer that we speak based on fact. We should get the report of the Ethics committee to be sure that we are speaking on fact.”
