The Universal Basic Education Board, UBEC, has donated 19,000 facemasks and other COVID-19 protective items to primary schools in Nasarawa State.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the state had re-opened all schools on Monday, October 5.
The state Chairman, State Universal Education board, SUBEB, Muhammed Dan-Azumi, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Lafia, the state capital.
Mr Dan-Azumi said that the items would be distributed to the 1,411 primary schools across the state to safeguard the pupils from contracting COVID-19 in the state.
Other items delivered to the state are 5,233 buckets and 2,822 cartons of hand sanitizers.
The chairman explained that each school would be given two cartons of hand sanitizers and three buckets each while every pupil would get a face mask.
“There is a template from Federal Ministry of Education on how we should conduct ourselves for various schools both secondary and primary schools that has to do with the COVID-19 protocols,” he said.
According to him, the state has taken measures to ensure that only qualified teachers teach in the state while the board collaborates with UBEC to ensure training and retraining of teachers and supporting staff.
“There is a directive from the Federal Government that schools should reopen based on each state’s readiness and even before the directive we were very much prepared,” Mr Dan-Azumi added.
