A baby has been confirmed dead and many still trapped as one storey building collapsed at Meiran area of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, LCDA of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

A heavy downpour in the early our of Saturday was believed to be the cause of the collapse, which is coming on the day residents in the state were casting votes in a local government elections.

The incident, which is the latest in the series of similar collapses in Lagos, has left many people trapped, as the restriction of movement in the due to the polls resulted to the large number of victims.

A baby, who was earlier rescued alive has been confirmed dead as rescue and emergency agencies are working frantically to rescue people still trapped in the debris.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, and others are on ground to rescue trapped people.

A huge crowd has gathered around the area, while the site of the collapse has been condoned off.
